Statement

Although I’m given to leave any experience or interpretation of my work as open-ended as possible, here I offer some personal thoughts.

In many ways I think of my paintings as abstract landscapes and, to borrow a literary term, a loose attempt at worldbuilding.  I strive to imbue each image with a sense of depth and duration, proposing a series of moments in which, at least for my part, one can engage visually with the hypothetical, visceral and mystical.

One question has stayed with me consistently through my studies, work life and artistic practice. How does art in its ever unfolding forms offer us ways to suspend our cognitive resistances to the higher dimensions of reality that might connect us and bypass conceptual restraints to communicating these experiences with each other?

Compositionally, I look to create a permutational ecology of texture, gradient and color dispersed across the canvases. Suggesting a movement of lines and visual fields juxtaposed, cantilevered, and superimposed upon each other...blah, blah, blah. Enough of equivocations.

At the end of it all and most importantly, I hope people find a place of resonance, peace and beauty in my work.
